THE GREAT BREED OF MAINE COON CATS
Appearance
The Maine coon is the largest domestic cat breed. The size of a typical Maine coon comes in at 10–16 inches tall and up to an impressive 40 inches in length. These sturdily built felines usually weigh 6–10 kilograms and have muscular bodies with wide chests and solid legs.
As if their big-boned build wasn't enough, the ample fur in the Main coone's coat makes these majestic animals look even bigger. Their long coat is silky and smooth, with a bushy lion-like mane. Maine coons come in a variety of colors and patterns. You can find solid white, smoke, cream, red, blue, and black Maine coons, as well as tabby, bi-color, tortoiseshell, shaded, and calico.
Other defining physical features are large pointed ears often topped with wisps of hair, expressive oval-shaped eyes, and a long, bushy tail.

Personality
Don't let their imposing size fool you—deep down, Maine coons are soft, gentle giants who love to spend time with their humans. They very much expect to be part of the family and aren't big on personal space or privacy. These cats are delighted at the thought of following you from room to room as you go about your day.
Maine coons are incredibly intelligent, fun-loving, and will keep their kittenish playfulness well into old age. They're not an aggressive breed, and will tolerate being picked up, held, and cuddled. These animals are friendly, kind, and patient with children.
These big cats are surprisingly quiet—they do love to communicate and vocalize to their humans, but their soft voice may take you by surprise.

Polydactyl paws
They are, quite simply, pedigreed Maine Coons with extra toes on their paws. A regular cat has five toes on the front paws and four toes on the back but a polydactyl cat can have up to seven toes on each paw.
First Maine Coon cats with this trait have been noted as early as the late 1800´s. They were specially valued by sailors since their ˝poly˝ paws made them extraordinary climbers and mouse hunters.
Contrary to popular belief, up to 40% of the first, original Maine Coons, had polydactyl paws.
Health issues? NONE! They are wonderful, healthy cats with extra toes. If you clip your cat's claws (or have them clipped), just plan on clipping some extra claws.
And to make you all love them even more, polydactyl Maine Coons also have consistently heavier boning, a highly desirable trait in a breed recognized for its massive size!
